While it is hard to not want to talk about your wedding plans with your family and friends it’s also hard to tune out the opinions of your family and friends on what they would like for your wedding. So be selfish! The day is about you and your fiancé after all and it should ultimately reflect the two of you as a couple. While advice and opinions are great take them as just that and do not forget you have final say. Here are the top things you should stick to and be selfish about!
There is no right or wrong number here so do what you want! Your wedding party should be filled with people who have loved and supported you. While it is common to use siblings or people who have asked you to be in theirs, you should not feel obligated to ask those people just because. Again it’s important to remember there is no right or wrong answer.
Ladies, I know you have heard this, but just like you knew your now fiancé was the one you will know the dress is the one. While we have the dress shopping do’s and don’ts it is most important that you feel confident in what you are wearing. If you bring a large group with you to your appointments it is easy to get overwhelmed with everyone’s opinions which could evidently overpower yours. You should be comfortable and confident in what you choose to wear.
What a headache, since everyone knows more mouths to feed more money. There is no golden rule here either to decide who gets a plus one and who does not, it is ultimately up to you and your fiancé. If you have never met their significant other, your wedding may not be the best time for introductions. Then again, if you feel it is important for this person to be there and it would be awkward for them to attend alone perhaps allow a plus one.
Another big decision, is it ok for you to do completely kids-free? What about some kids? Again there is no right or wrong here. Whatever you decide, just be sure when you're inviting guests with children they know whether their children are invited to.
It is amazing how complicated seating everyone can get. It is important to keep in mind if there are any people that do not get along or guests that only know a few of your other guests. The location of where people sit also come into effect as you want to make sure that when it is time for everyone to be seated they do so without issue. Keep in mind guest will only be sitting for eating the rest of the time they will be up dancing! While yes, we said to be selfish, there is one opinion you can’t ignore during wedding planning: your partner’s. It’s just as much their wedding day as it is yours, so it’s important you work together to create your special day.
The cake cutting or bouquet toss is what people expect at a wedding, but that doesn’t mean you have to do them. If you want to eat your cake before your dinner, do it! Your wedding day is about celebrating your love and a new beginning, so do whatever feels right to you.
Stick to the music you like, but be mindful of your guests to an extent. We find that playing a variety of songs that appeal to multiple generations’ works best then toward the end of the night you can dance your heart out to some of your favorites. There is one opinion you can’t ignore during wedding planning: your partner’s. It’s just as much their wedding day as it is yours (at least let them think that), so it’s important you work together to create a day that’s meaningful to both of you.
